Control of invite replies in iCal

iCal Reply Checker is an add-in to iCal for Mac OSX that gives the user options for how replies to meeting invites on local calendars that are sent with Mail are dealt with.

This application allows the option to block some, all or none of the out-going meeting event related emails sent with Mail. It also gives the option to edit the message in Mail before sending.

Event duplication in iCloud accounts

I have had a couple of emails in the last few days in relation to Apple's iCloud and duplicates in iCal. Having used iCal Dupe Deleter the duplicates for some users are re-appearing in iCal after a short while. The addition of the duplicated events is due to iCloud re-introducing the duplicated events back into the calendars from the server.

Apple have created a knowledge base article (TS4038) that outlines how they suggest users to remove duplicates in MobileMe. This method is identical to that for iCloud calendars and (although it seems long winded) I suggest you follow these instructions when de-duping events from iCloud calendars.

Dates to iCal 2.3 update released

I have just uploaded Dates to iCal 2.3.0. This update has several feature improvements.

Firstly (following on from the French, German and Spanish localizations in version 2.2.4) Dates to iCal 2.3 is now localized into Italian. I'm very grateful to Roberto Miola for his translations which have enabled this.

Don't forget another anniversary

Dates to iCal 2 is a replacement for Apple's birthday calendar for iCal. It has a range of features to allow the user to choose what, and what not, to sync to iCal from Address Book.

As well as automatically syncing birthday dates from Address Book, Dates to iCal 2 can sync anniversary and custom dates. It can set up to five alarms for each date in iCal and can also set different alarms for birthdays and anniversaries. It allows the option of only syncing from one Address Book group. This application also allows for the titles of the events sent to iCal to be modified to the user's preference.

These are mainly to do with Apple iCal, Mail and Address Book. All are free to download, but if you use any of these scripts regularly I'd appreciate a donation. Also, I'd love to hear any feedback you have on these.

Remove duplicate events from iCal calendars

iCal Dupe Deleter is a straight-forward application to aid the removal of duplicate events and todos in iCal under OSX Leopard and later.

iCal Dupe Deleter is donationware. If you find this useful I'd appreciate a donation. You can either donate from this website or through the application.

Dates to iCal now updated for Lion

I have just uploaded Dates to iCal 2.2.5. This update makes Dates to iCal OSX Lion compatible and I recommend all users update to this version before installing Lion.

For those who have Dates to iCal installed and have already updated to Lion, I suggest you do the following:

1. Replace your previous version of Dates to iCal with version 2.2.5.
2. Open iCal and delete the calendars associated with Dates to iCal.
3. Quit and re-open iCal.
4. Make new calendars to contain the Dates to iCal events.

Currently Dates to iCal 2 (as of version 2.2.4) is not compatible with OSX 10.7.

I am working on an update and expect to release it in the next few days.

Outlook Meeting Invite Translator

PLEASE NOTE YAI is not compatible with OSX 10.6, Snow Leopard and I have no current plans to develop this software to run in OSX 10.6. I am no longer supporting this application and licences are no longer available.

YAI (You Are Invited) is a plug-in for Apple Mail in OSX 10.4 and OSX 10.5 that translates and transfers Outlook, Google Calendar, Zimbra and Exchange style meeting invitations to iCal. It corrects many incompatibilities between Microsoft Exchange style meeting invites and what iCal can understand.

Looking for translators

For as long as I have been writing software for Apple Macs I have had occasional, but regular requests that I translate the applications I write. Much to my embarrassment, I have usually evaded such requests due to my worries over the time and complexity I expected to get into, not to mention I really only have a grasp on one language. With a (soon to be released) version of Dates to iCal I'd like to break with that and hope to be able to release it in as many languages as required - but I need your help.
